Blurred border
Give you photos a blurred border or fade them into the background...

Create a new image 400x400 px with a white background. Now paste the image you wish to blur onto the canvas. HOLD CTRL to select your image and go to Select>Modify>Contract and enter 15 (make sure Apply effect at canvas bounds is selected).

Now go to Select>Modify>Feather and enter about 7 then click ok. Now goto Edit>Copy then Edit>Paste.
Now turn off "layer 1" with your original photo by clicking the picture of and eye next to the layer in the layers palette. You will be left with your new image. You have blurred the outer edges but the photo is still sharp. You may need to adjust the feather settings or contract settings according to the size of your image...
